These Merlot vines were plantet in Ried (single vineyard, cru) SACHSENBERG in the 1980s on well drained gravelly soils high in clay. The Cistercians knew very well, that these vineyards south of Gobelsburg have been sought out for red wine historically. Training on a Lyra system lets the grapes get that extra portion of sunlight for physiological ripeness and complexity. A reserve wine showing fine cassis notes in classic claret style, capturing elegant and thightly knit tannins as well as a smooth and silky finish. Matured in 600-liter-barrels of regional Manhartsberg oak, the wine is only slightly filtered and could contain sediments.
